How the in-hand salary calculation works
In India, your CTC (Cost to Company) is not the money that reaches your bank account. CTC bundles in employer contributions — the employer's share of EPF and gratuity — that are part of the company's cost but never paid to you as monthly cash. Your true in-hand salary is what remains after removing those, plus your own deductions:
- Employer PF & gratuity — removed first (part of CTC, not take-home).
- Employee EPF (12% of basic) — goes to your retirement corpus, not your account.
- Professional tax — a small state levy (~₹2,400/year).
- Income tax + 4% cess — after the ₹75,000 standard deduction and ₹12L 87A rebate (new regime).
The remainder, divided by 12, is your monthly in-hand. Read the full methodology or the guide on how in-hand salary is calculated.

Frequently asked questions
How is in-hand salary calculated from CTC in India? +
From your annual CTC we remove the employer PF and gratuity (which are part of CTC but never reach you as cash), then from the remaining gross we deduct your own EPF, professional tax and income tax. What is left is your in-hand pay, which we divide by 12 for the monthly figure.
Does this use the new or old tax regime? +
The main result uses the new regime (the default for FY 2025-26), and the page also shows a side-by-side new-vs-old comparison so you can see which one gives you a higher take-home.
Is variable pay included in monthly in-hand? +
No. Variable / bonus is usually paid separately (quarterly or annually), so we exclude it from the monthly in-hand but still count it as taxable income for the year.
Are RSUs / stock part of in-hand salary? +
No. Stock and RSUs are shown separately from cash in-hand because they vest over time and are taxed differently. Enter them in advanced options to see total compensation.
Is this calculator free? +
Yes, completely free with no sign-up. You can also install the free SalaryLens Chrome extension to see take-home directly on job posts.
